Siggraph Welcomes MACI Multimedia Researchers

A video and animation on the Temple site at Phimai, Thailand produced by Dr Richard Levy has been selected for the Computer Animation Festival at the Annual SIGGRAPH Conference to be held this year in Los Angeles, Aug 11-17 (http://helios.siggraph.org/s2001/conference). The video documents the issues encountered during the computer reconstruction of this United Nations World Heritage site. This reconstruction of the temple site in Phimai in Thailand serves as a case study highlighting the potential uses of computer visualization as a tool in heritage resource management. Images from this project will also be published in the June issue of Canadian Architect

Dr Przemyslaw Prusinkiewicz and his graduate student Lars Muendermann, Radoslaw Karwowski, and Brendan Lane are presenting a paper at SIGGRAPH 2001 on "The use of positional information in the modeling of plants." The paper introduces a new methodology for creating plant models with an unprecedented degree of realism. SIGGRAPH attracts about 35,000 visitors each year.
